Ah! Can't Get Breakthrough to Work! - 2007/02/28 19:19 I just recently had a computer destructive recovery and I started reinstalling everything. Once I got to Breakthrough (expansion of Allied Assault) it stopped at 65%. It said there was a problem with some video memory stuff... this sucks! I've tried restarting and it comes out the same. I can only play Mohaa atm. Which is no fun.

I think Csaszar may have screwed up my CD. I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my father, not screaming in terror like his passengers.

As long as the painted top of the CD is still completely intact, the clear plastic part of the CD can be resurfaced. A simple way to do it is to use toothpaste as a type of rubbing compound. Apply it in the same manner that you would normally clean a CD, starting with about a half-inch of toothpaste on a soft cloth in the center and working your way directly to the outside edge. Go around the entire CD this way several times, apply more toothpaste as needed, then rinse with water and dry using the same method, center to outside edge. Any type of toothpaste will do.
I've had CDs that looked like they were laid down on a gravel road and stomped that I've brought back to life. The data is kept in a layer under the paint, but above the clear plastic disc. That's why this method is possible. The toothpaste acts as a mild abrasive and works very well with minor scratches. Sometimes helpful with major gouges. Worth a try. They make careers out of dulling their senses and then wonder why they're unaware.
